Carla's Sandwich by Debbie Herman

https://www.storylineonline.net/books/carlas-sandwich/

Maybe you would like an adventure for lunch?  Carla likes to make interesting sandwiches for her school lunch.  Look through the fridge and discuss what options are for creating your own sandwich.
Lesson focus:

Language Arts: Concepts of Print, Writing for purpose.  You will be doing the writing and modeling how spoken words can be written down and read later or shared with someone else.  Check out the contents of your refrigerator and/or pantry, write a list of food you have available to make a sandwich. This could also be split into two columns, of liked or disliked foods as well.  Add some drawings to illustrate the list. Write down the recipe the sandwich you created.  Have them draw a sandwich and then as they tell you what's on it, Label their drawing with as much detail as you can get them tell you.  Ask them WH questions, What is on it, Who will eat it? Where would like to eat this sandwich?

If you write the recipe include the measurements or amounts of each ingredient, (2 slices of bread, one spoonful of mustard)

Math - Set the table for lunch, number of plates, forks, napkins for each person.  this is practice for counting and one to one, the concepts of groups and sets

Social emotional - How does Carla feel when her classmates make fun of her sandwich? What happened to Buster's sandwich, How does he feel?  Why doesn't Buster want to try Carla's sandwich? Can you make a _____ face? (sad, happy, yucky, angry, surprised)
